Three Great Resources to Succeed with Business Continuity in 2019

We talk about business continuity a lot on this blog because, frankly, as an outsourced IT company for Seattle businesses, we see a lot of tech disasters in our line of work. (You wouldn’t believe how many.)

In our extensive experience, we’ve found that business continuity is the best safeguard against the long-term business disruption that typically results from a disaster, which is why we wanted to share these three great resources that can help you improve your business continuity and overall cybersecurity strength in the new year. Enjoy

1. Your Guide to Understanding Ransomware

We were excited and honored to publish an article all about ransomware for the Better Business Bureau last year, helping small business owners understand and avoid these terrible attacks. Now, we’re also excited to share an in-depth ransomware eBook with you, called “The Business Guide to Ransomware”.

The eBook includes information on how ransomware is spread, an explanation of the many types of ransomware out there, and facts on how you can avoid or recover from an attack. (Spoiler alert: business continuity is the key to quickly recovering from ransomware.)

2. A Natural Disaster Survival Guide

We can’t stress enough how critical disaster preparedness is to your business’s security. We run a small business too, so we understand how hectic things can get and how often tasks can slip through the cracks, but we assure you, it’s really important to keep up with your cybersecurity.

That’s why we’re sharing a handy guide that offers easy-to-understand advice on staying ahead of natural disasters (including volcanoes!), so you can keep your business data safe even in the worst of worst-case scenarios. The guide also clarifies how you can begin implementing a disaster recovery plan for your company and, at this point, you won’t be surprised to learn that business continuity is one of the biggest parts of that plan.

3. The Cyber Readiness Institute

Ebooks and guides are awesome, but sometimes you just don’t have time to read them all the way through. It can also be hard to ensure that your employees read the eBooks and guides you share with them, which is a bummer because human error is the #1 threat to your business security.

That’s why we were pretty excited to discover the Cyber Readiness Institute, a free (nonprofit) resource built specifically to help small and mid-size businesses increase their cybersecurity awareness and tighten up their cybersecurity practices. The Institute’s 5-step program, launched in December, focuses on passwords, phishing, patching, and safe usage of USB drives, and they provide downloads that can help you educate your employees, create and implement useful security policies, and build a culture of cyber awareness.

Though, we admit, we haven’t yet had time to investigate the many resources available through the Cyber Readiness Institute, we’re pretty sure that, somewhere on their site, they recommend business continuity as an essential piece of your overall cybersecurity plan. If not, we’ll take this chance to make our own recommendation that you do so.

Make Business Continuity a Priority in 2019

The 2018 Verizon Data Breach Investigation Report found that 58% of all data breach victims are small businesses, which means your company is at risk. As if that wasn’t worrisome enough, natural disasters are increasing worldwide, which means your company is also at risk of dangers like fire or flooding in 2019.

If you happen to fall victim to a data breach, natural disaster, or cyberattack, your key to overcoming the challenge successfully lies in resuming business operations as quickly as possible. With business continuity, you can get back to work in at little as 5 minutes, so it’s a good idea to make business continuity one of your top cybersecurity goals for 2019.

After all, you can never be too prepared – and you don’t want to take any security chances with your business.
